Built in 1791, Maison ila is a vintage green-shuttered Maison de Maitre which sits in a pretty church square on the edge of Sonnac-sur-l’Hers, a village of only about 130 residents. For years it was a smart and much-loved Bed Breakfast, Le Tresor, before being bought in 2020 by Denise and John Leicester who have repurposed it into a tranquil and intimate wellbeing retreat. The building still retains its innate French character mixed with gorgeous Indian artisan furniture and many faithful features, from the white-washed walls and high ceilings to marble fireplaces, tiled floors and wooden desks with views of mountains and open skies. One new addition is the new yoga, sound healing and meditation space. The ceilings are huge, so sound resonates, the views are like paintings, the peace palpable.
The main house is home to five spacious bedrooms each unique with its own mood and memories. All come with Egyptian cotton linens, tisanes (liquorice, verveine, lavender, rose-buds), a laundry service, daily cleaning, and free wi-fi.
In the bathrooms you’ll find fragrant, organic ilā products, including anti-viral herbal handwashes, Himalayan bath salts and fragrant oils.
